BIO
Carlos F. Benitez began his creative journey in the exacting field of material science engineering, where he learned the inherent properties of the elements. This technical grounding informs his sculptural practice, enabling him to mold and refine iron, bronze, aluminum, and copper to express his thoughts on culture, identity, and society.
Raised in a bicultural setting—immersing himself in his Puerto Rican roots while embracing life in the Continental U.S.—Benitez's life is a study in diaspora. He believes that while our origins may not define who we are, they profoundly influence our future. He is currently a full-time sculpture student at Arizona State University, primarily favoring bronze to explore the cultural dialogue between Puerto Rico and the United States, giving a strong voice to Puerto Rican cultural identity.
