A Metallurgy of Identity

Who are we when we leave our home? And who do we become when our home changes without us?

This work investigates the fractures and fusions, the stress and strains, of the Puerto Rican identity. What happens when the organic history of the Taino meets the industrial steel of the conqueror, as explored in "Bound by Culture." What layers we must forge to protect ourselves, wearing "The Cultural Veil" not to hide, but to assert our presence in a country that often overlooks us.

What about the sorrow of displacement—both distinct and environmental. Through "El Coqui Nostálgico," we mourn the loss of the natural world and the fading song of the island, mirroring the diaspora’s drift from their origins. Through "No Llores Llorona," we reclaim the narrative of the "monstrous" woman, revealing the abused mother beneath who, like the culture itself, is simply seeking sustenance and peace for her children.

Ultimately, this sculptures are acts of resilience. They are heavy, permanent markers of a people who refuse to be erased by history, industry, or distance.
